Here’s the mindset shift that helped me, and the little ways I stayed active in the postpartum haze (without pushing myself too hard).

Maybe you bought a pack of conventional diapers before you knew about the chlorine-free ones. Totally fine.
Every family has different budgets, time, and capacity. What matters is that you’re trying. Even one swap—like switching to glass baby bottles—can make a meaningful difference over time.
Your baby doesn’t need a perfect environment. When you’re preparing for a new baby, there’s no shortage of choices to make—cribs, swaddles, strollers, and of course, baby bottles. At first glance, they may all seem pretty similar, but one important detail that often gets overlooked is the material.
What your baby’s bottle is made of can impact not only their health and safety but also the planet. In this post, we’re diving into why it might be time to skip plastic bottles and consider glass or stainless steel as safer, smarter alternatives.

Plastic baby bottles are everywhere. They’re lightweight, cheap, and come in every color under the sun. But convenience sometimes comes at a cost.
Many plastic bottles contain chemicals like BPA or phthalates—substances that can leach into milk, especially when heated or worn down over time. Even BPA-free bottles may contain substitute chemicals that haven’t been thoroughly studied.
Beyond health, plastic also has a massive environmental footprint. It’s made using petroleum, consumes large amounts of water during production, and often ends up in landfills—or worse, oceans—where it breaks down into microplastics that harm wildlife.
So what are the healthier, more eco-friendly options?

Bringing a new life into the world is beautiful, exciting, and—let’s be honest—pretty overwhelming. There’s so much to think about when you’re preparing for a new baby, and while most checklists focus on baby bottles and swaddles, there’s another side that’s just as important: mental preparation.
Because once that tiny bundle arrives, everything changes. Your time, your energy, your relationship, your priorities. And while no amount of prep can fully prepare you for the emotional rollercoaster of parenthood, here are the things that helped me feel a little more grounded.

One of the most important things I did before baby arrived wasn’t buying a single thing—it was sitting down with my spouse and having some honest conversations. Because truthfully, having a baby shifts everything: your time, your routines, your relationship.
Late-night movies turn into late-night feedings. “Just the two of us” becomes “the three of us,” and date nights? They take a little more planning.
If you’re preparing for a new baby, try to talk through how this change will affect your relationship. Discuss how you’ll support each other, how you’ll handle exhaustion, and most importantly, how you’ll find time—even a little—to stay connected.
Ask family in advance if they’d be willing to come over once a week, or even once a month, to give you a break so you can sneak in a quick date night or just breathe.
Parenthood is a long game, and the best way to stay strong is to grow together through the changes.

Read the books, watch the videos, and take the breastfeeding or infant CPR class. It might not make you an expert, but it will ease some of the stress. Especially for new dads, who may not feel as instinctively connected to newborn’s needs right away. And that’s okay. This is new for them, too.
Talk about it. Prepare together. Focus on the basics first: safe sleep space, feeding supplies, diapers, and a good carrier or stroller. You don’t need everything you see on Instagram. But creating a calm, organized space does help you feel more emotionally ready.
Once the baby’s here, you’ll continue to buy a lot more stuff. You may tear up over something silly. You may suddenly feel differently about things you thought you had decided on. That’s normal. Give yourself room to adjust.
Keep the communication open with your partner. Revisit your plans. Be kind to yourself. And remember: love, grace, and a little flexibility will take you a long way.

But what no one tells you? The real challenge begins when baby comes out. It’s a 24/7 job—nonstop feedings, diaper changes, cluster feeding at midnight, and all the in-between moments of “am I doing this right?” For new moms with no experience, the learning curve is steep, and the training? Practically on the job. You’re healing, you’re figuring out how to care for a newborn, and you’re doing it all on little to no sleep. It came with cracked nipples, latching struggles, and so much second-guessing. The truth is: most moms face challenges. Don’t be hard on yourself. Seek out lactation support, give yourself grace, and be open to what works for you. Whether you nurse, pump, combo feed, or use formula—you’re feeding your baby with love. Even when baby sleeps, you might be washing bottles, pumping, or trying to squeeze in a shower. It’s not just sleep deprivation—it’s no sleep at all. You’ll feel like a zombie, and that’s okay. Try to create a strategy with your partner or family. Alternate shifts if you can. Let go of the laundry. Sleep when the baby sleeps—even if it’s just 30 minutes. Some things will shift permanently. Muscles stretched, organs moved, hormones changed everything. And a little human was born through you. Don’t let social media steal your joy. Pelvic floor muscles go through a lot during pregnancy and delivery. Strengthening them with simple Kegel exercises can help with bladder control, core strength, and overall recovery.
One of the most comforting things I discovered during the postpartum phase? Other moms who get it. Whether it’s your BFFs who also have little ones, new mom friends from a birth class, or even the mama you met at a breastfeeding support group—having a circle of women who are walking through the same season can make a world of difference. Many hospitals and local clinics offer postpartum meetups, lactation support groups, or new mom coffee chats. These spaces are more than just a chance to talk about nursing or diaper rash—they’re lifelines. You can vent, laugh, cry, share tips, and realize you’re not alone in this beautiful chaos. Motherhood can feel isolating, especially in the early weeks. Surrounding yourself with others who understand the sleepless nights, the self-doubt, and the tiny triumphs can be incredibly healing.
